Yesterday I had the pleasure of teaching five girls how to decorate cupcakes. The theme was vintage cupcakes. The girls decided to treat one of their friends to this course as it was one of the things she wanted to cross of her 30th birthday bucket list.
On arrival they received a glass of buck fizz so they could toast their friends milestone.
With some 90's music in the back ground we started the course.
They all had different levels of ability when it came to cake decorating, some had some knowledge and other had non at all, it was a real mix bag.
I first taught them how to make a rose out of flower paste in a vintage pink by mixing small amounts of pink with a tiny bit of brown to give a vintage pink effect to the flower paste.
Some of the girls found this challenging and with a bit of help from myself they soon got to grips with the technique and were really pleased with their efforts.
We then went on to create some rose buds and after their efforts with the more complex rose technique they found the rose buds a lot easier to do. But they all agreed that even thou the more complex rose was harder they enjoyed learning how to make it.
They also learned how to make pearls and how to lustre them to create a realistic look, made some leaves to go with their rose buds and a ribbon. Once all the elements where completed it was then time to move on to decorating the cupcakes.
The girls learnt how to colour fondant in a vintage green colour, roll out fondant to the exact thickness to create a domed cupcake. Once the cupcakes were domed they then added their embellishments.
They also learnt how to create a rose swirl buttercream cupcake, which they could then proceed to add the rose buds and leaves.
On the last cupcake I gave them free rein to do what they wanted, they made some extra embellishments using moulds and painted them gold,
The end result was fantastic, even with their different cake abilities they still managed to create beautiful vintage cupcakes.
Victoria's cakes aim to provide a relax atmospheres so you can enjoy the experience, these girls went over to Tortworth Court after to enjoy a cuppa and a cocktail with their cupcakes.
If you would like to enjoy the experience of a vintage cupcake course get in contact, I would love to teach you the skills of sugarcraft.
" We Attended a cupcake decorating masterclass with Victoria for my friends 30th birthday. Such a great time! She was very patient and we all created lovely cakes to take home that tasted delicious. The venue is decorated really well and the end of the session Victoria became honorary member of our friendship group. Lovely activity to share as friends, would definitely recommend, Joanne "
